The Sherburne Wheelers ATV Club, Inc. is an organization
that promotes safe riding, encourages conservation and
preservation of riding areas. We establish and maintain our
trail system; and we foster community support.
The Sherburne Wheelers were looking for volunteers to crochet, knit or sew chemo caps. We advertised in local newspapers. Three years later, 97 people have volunteered in so many ways! Some donated yarn, some donated money to pay for postage to ship yarn or buy yarn, and some printed labels to accompany each chemo cap. The response was overwhelming!
As of April 2011 over 3,365 chemo caps and 120 lap blankets have been collected and donated. They were sent from as far away as Florida and Long Island. Yarn was donated from Pennsylvania. One wonderful lady...Betty Arnister of Long Island, Grandmother of Dara Danyluk (Webmaster and Board Member of the Sherburne Wheelers) has crocheted over 600 chemo caps!
President, Lex Danyluk, Vice President Al Zogg, Secretary Donna Danyluk, and Board Members, Kathy Zogg, Jeff McDermott, and Dave Jaeger drop off the first round of chemo caps.
Vivian Hull of Sherburne was next with over 300. Peg Gordon of Norwich has made 48 fleece hats. The Ladies of the Smyrna Library Knitting Group donated 137 chemo caps that they had made!
The Chemo Cap Project is still on going. We will also be collecting “lap blankets”/afghans. Please call Mary Cordick at (607) 674-6506 for more information. Yarn is available!
